- Albion 1 - 2
Chorley
-
- The first half was a scrappy
affair with neither side dominating. Chorley were constantly being
caught off-side by the well-disciplined Albion defence. Although the
game was even it didn't make attractive viewing for the crowd of 121
that had turned out on a cold February afternoon.
- The second half was more
entertaining with Albion pushing forward more and creating more chances.
Chorley were equally dangerous on the break but still were not able to
beat the off-side trap. Danny Toronczak found himself in space on the
left of goal and seemed undecided before putting in a tame cross which
was easily cleared.
- Dominic Riordan, who had
been outstanding in the Albion defence, suffered an injury early in the
second half and had to go off to be replaced by Jordan Kenefick. Up
until then, Albion had looked secure at the back, but now they began to
look more vulnerable. Nevertheless, it was Albion who took the lead when
Toronczak was put clean through on the right of goal. This time there
was no uncertainty as he crashed the ball into the net giving the
Chorley goalkeeper no chance at all.
- As soon as they had scored Albion
found themselves under pressure as Chorley pushed forward and began to
create chances. Ten minutes before the end Chorley equalised when they
finally managed to spring the off-side trap and they made no mistake.
Chorley were now full of confidence and continued to press forward with
Albion looking very insecure at the back. Chorley got their reward, with
just a minute remaining, when they again beat the off-side trap and
scored their second goal.
- There was still time for Albion to
mount one last attack and Toronczak bore down on goal and fired in a
tremendous dipping shot. Unfortunately, Paul Priestly, the Chorley
goalkeeper was equal to the task and pulled off a tremendous save to
prevent Albion from having a share of the
points.
