- Albion 4 - 1
Shepshed Dynamo
-
- A fairly even first half saw each
side dominate the game for periods of time. Albion started the better
and scored after just 8 minutes through Gary Shaw who finished well
after being put through by Danny Toronczak. Albion looked good value for
their lead, but gradually they let Shepshed back into the game and
conceded and equaliser after 26 minutes. From this point on the Albion
defence began to look shaky and every time Shepshed attacked they looked
capable of scoring. Albion somehow weathered the pressure and got to the
interval still on level terms.
- Albion looked more confident in
the second half and had taken control within 15 minutes of the restart
with 2 goals in 4 minutes. First skipper Rob Edwards was on the end of a
good pass from Toronczak to finish in style and then Toronczak finished
just as impressively when in an almost identical position. At this point
Albion should have been in control, but Shepshed, to their credit,
didn't give up but kept causing problems for the home defence and with
better finishing they could have been had several goals of their own.
After 70 minutes Gary Duffty came on for Toronczak who had looked full
of running and sharp. Then in the 79th minute Andy Farrell made the game
safe with a spectacular goal. He received the ball on the edge of the
penalty box and turned, pushed the ball through the defender's legs and
ran past him to crash the ball into the Shepshed net.
- A good performance from Albion
which sees the through to the quarter-finals of the Unibond Chairman's
Cup.
